THE ROBOTS V THE HEART
Artificial intelligence is already here and impacting how we go about the world. My friend and I are ChatGPTing our morning workouts; he is all in using the tool as a personal assistant. It has infiltrated art and science and the question of what it means to be a human is constantly brought to my attention. I propose that humanity’s essence lies in creativity and intention. It separates us from the robots and is the future of how we are going to go about the world.
Creativity is about connecting the dots and then iterating from there. I will admit that the robots can do this, with great success. But what the robots lack is the intention of the work itself. They might be able to replicate and even play the same notes as Jimi, even iterating on his work and playing gorgeous music. But they will never be able to flip the guitar upside down, over their head, and then light it on fire. And understand what is culturally significant. They may be able to paint the same brush strokes as Pablo, but they will never be able to feel the pain and joy that comes along with it. The same goes with our work. I could have had GPT write this. And it is chalk full of grammatical and content errors. I could have articulated this concept in a lot more intricate and complicated way. But. This is me, today, and this is what is going to push forward. The chemical feelings of love is not the same as going through the process. Even if we cannot differential between the two. The heart will always win. At least I hope.
